Thomas looked at the man that just came in. This must be the mercenary that Klove had been talking about.
"Yes, I suppose that's me. The new cook. The name's Quillan. Thomas A. Quillan... And I cook. You must be... Castle? The mercenary? Sounds... fun. You kill 'em, I grill 'em?"
Thomas let out a grin. Maybe a joke would break the mercenary's cold exterior for a moment. Although Klove had assured him there would be no quarrels, Thomas was still unsure about sharing space with a mercenary.
"Listen, if it's not an issue, I'm going to run out and get a few things before it's too late. Is that all right?" Thomas spoke as he began to head for the door.

Klove kicked off his boots and pulled off his socks. The metal felt really good on his bare feet after putting up with shoes all day long. He probably wouldn't have to wear any until they hit Nox.
"Yeah, no problem." He said to Quillan. Funny name. But who was Klove to say anybody's name was funny. "Just don't stay out too late. You don't want to get stuck outside when I close the door."
Klove looked over at Castle, watching him mess around with his gun. "Nice." Klove said, "Eagle's an awesome gun." Most mercs he knew carried them. They'd been around for ages and ages, but it said a lot about the guns. Once you got the right design, there wasn't anything else you needed to do to them.

Castle kept a straight face as he looked up at Quillan. He hated bad jokes. Quillan was a strange fellow. He seemed awkward and often babbled on. He'd get very annoying. Castle just hoped he'd leave him alone on the trip. He didn't like to talk to his type.
He nodded at Klove's compliment to the gun. "Yeah, I've had her for quite some time now." Three years next month to be exact. He loved that gun. It was perfect. There was once that wished he had met the person who invented the gun. But that was impossible for so many reasons. One was that he'd been dead for a long time. The Desert Eagle was one of the most popular handguns. That's why they'd kept making them.

"She looked well used." Klove reached behind and pulled out his own pistol, unloading it like he usually did at night. If you kept your pistol where you slept, it was just a good idea to unload it, unless you felt like trusting your life on the safety. "I've got a Beretta 92-F."
It wasn't as big as the Desert Eagle, but size didn't matter, not unless you were bringing down big game. And they had the sniper rifle for big game. When dealing with people, you wanted accuracy. He tucked it into one of the hidie-holes in his bunk, making sure the doors shut tight.
He grabbed his padd from another compartment, and brought up a book he was halfway through reading. It was a Dwarven novel, sorta. It was actually an epic song that someone had bothered to translate into English, and then cleaned it up so was more novel than song. The book was alright, a real dramatic story about a family of Dwarves going back five generations, all working on the same vein of gold. He was up to the third generation, and they were about to fik up everything the first two families had built. Er. Dug.
Klove glanced up at Castle. "I'm going to go read in the storage bay. If you want to watch something or eat or whatever, the mess hall should be open. Just help yourself."

Castle nodded. She was definitely well used. He looked at Klove's Beretta 92F with interest. It was a good gun but he liked the bigger ones better. He was more about power, getting the job done with less bullets, than he was for accuracy. Well, if it's more accurate, then that could also mean less bullets. It all depended on how good a shot you are, and he was a pretty good marksman when he needed to be.
He accepted the permission to lounge in the mess hall. He needed a good rest. He didn't normally sleep that well during space travel. He didn't exactly know why, he just slept longer when grounded. Er, not n space. They weren't exactly grounded.
He took a padd and entered the mess hall. He sat down at the table. Maybe there was something he could read. He didn't like reading, but what else was there to do.

Klove headed out to the storage page and took his usual seat on the ramp, letting his legs dangle over the side. It was a cool night, and there was a slight breeze drifting through the Inbetween, bringing in fresh air for once. He took a deep breath, enjoying it.
Quillan had been a good catch. Sure he was twitchy, but a cook would be nice, and even better, Solomon would be left hanging. It was petty revenge, but even petty revenge was better than nothing.
He found where he'd left off and picked up the epic tale. Jarl and Skuld fighting over the future of the mine, and Skuld was about to take of Jarl's head with an axe. Klove settled in and got lost, the ambient sound of the spaceport fading away.

Thomas strutted back up the ramp of the ship with a few bags of clothes he had purchased for his amazing space adventure. He had never been in space but he had the imagination for it. Dark and deep.
Going up the ramp he noticed Klove reading something in the non-lowered section of the storage. Thomas waved and kept going on in. He turned right and headed into the sleeping quarters. He carefully laid out his new purchases on his bed and proceded to place them in his bunk's storage.
Tomorrow was the first day of his new life. He planned to wake up early tomorrow to make a good impression on the captain of this new boat and make her a hearty breakfast of- Thomas thought back to his talk with Klove earlier, "ah... eggs and milk."
He sat down in his bed after grabbing a pad and looked for something to read.

Klove nodded back to Quillan. Clothes were always a good idea in a spaceship, especially since while it was possible to do laundry, it was always tricky to get things to fully dry out. Something about the way the ship just kept moisture in the air. Either way, smart guy.
With everybody inside the ship, Klove raised the ramp and secured it. They'd probably be off of Terra before anyone (except Grace) woke up. Klove wandered out of the storage and sat on the stairs. He yawned, big full-jaw thing, and went back to reading.
By the time he woke up tomorrow, they'd be in space. Klove really couldn't wait.
