Almost immediately, Skye noticed Digeo’s deliberate emphasis of the fact the she didn’t need to tell Titus she wasn’t his half-sister. She nodded, as it was obviously important to him, and the last thing she wanted to do was get Digeo angry again. “I won’t tell him.” She murmured, which was entirely the truth. Why would she bother telling Titus what he already knew? As for the other things they had discussed, Skye wasn’t so sure. Despite her newfound misgivings about Titus, she still trusted him more than Digeo.
He had saved her life. He had given her the home she’d never had. So far Digeo had been nothing but a threat to those things. And what might Digeo ask Titus tommarow if the two had lunch together? Why he had lied to Skye about her being his sister? No, he needed to be prepared for that question, and Digeo certainly would be the one to let him know. Suddenly, Skye felt rather guilty. With only a few words she had shifted the blame for this little game from herself to Titus. She only hoped he could forgive her for that.

Digeo considered Skye's agreement. She probably wouldn't tattle about what her lack of relation to the Veres. After all, she would just endanger her newfound security and wealth, and there was no one less willing to disrupt their life than someone who had just crawled out of the Below. Skye would probably do anything to keep from going back. Perhaps that was part of the appeal of this for Titus.
"Good evening Skye. I hope it will be quite some time before we meet again, no offence intended." He said and gave her a polite little nod before he made for the door. Digeo let himself out, making sure the door locked behind him. When he heard the snap of the locks, he continued home, running scenarios through his mind as he tried to think how the Below-dwelling girl fit into everything.

Was he going to leave? Skye’s spirits rose at the thought. Nothing that she’d far experienced in the Top, not even the strange fit she’d had at Persephone’s, had unnerved her more than this encounter. She was more than eager for it to be over. She nodded in response to Digeo’s final words. Skye couldn’t have agreed with them more. She would have been perfectly happy if she and Digeo never set eyes on each other again. And then he was gone. The door closed behind him. She heard the lock click.
Skye ran to the window and anxiously watched Digeo’s retreating figure, frightened that he might, for whatever reason, turn around and come back. When she was sure he’d gone, she sank to the floor beneath the window, put her face in her hands, and began to cry. Her whole body shook, tears rolling down her cheeks. Skye didn’t even know why she was crying, what emotion she was feeling. It was relief and fear, guilt and anger, all wrapped up into one powerful emotion that washed over her in great waves. She felt like a small child once again. Crying in a dark corner, hiding away from the cruel world that waited just outside.
