describe full personality = In human terms, Mai could be considered a hippy. While technology interests her to some degree, she still prefers more natural ways of living. She's a bit of a mother hen, instinct bred into her by her large family, and so she will often worry and tut over those she cares about (and even some she doesn't). She desires to help those in need, and will sometimes take extreme measures to do so, and this is more than likely when her stubborn side comes out. If Mai truly believes in something, she will most definitely let you have an earful on the subject. She is also a creative soul, having recently picked up painting, which she learned from both Winged and humans alike, since she could never do it under water.[/size][/ul]
so the story begins...
Mai grew up in a large family, second child of seven. Being one of the eldest, she quickly grew to become a helper around the house, the instinct to help out her family quickly bred in her from the beginning. As she grew up, Mai went into learning medicine from the local healers.
With the arrival of the humans, Mai began spending more time out of the water, mixing with both human and Winged more often than before. With these new interactions, she began picking up medical methods of theirs as well, despite still preferring most of the mermaid ways as she veiwed them as far more natural. She also began to expand her creative side as she learned more art forms that were not possible under water.
Recently on an errand to the surface, Mai's one older sibling Kairi ended up going missing. Mai has since spent her free time over the past year travelling up to the space port in hopes that Kairi will turn up, or that someone has heard something about her disappearance. Having no luck so far, Mai has begun to wonder if she hasn't been looking far enough, and has turned her mind towards the stars.

Night was falling and another day had nearly passed with nothing to show for it. Not that she was expecting anything anyway. It had been like this for months. No matter how many new people came to the spaceport, no one had any answers for her.
She was taking a break to paint outside, though the view of the the ocean from the deck was looking the same as usual. There weren't many more ways she could repaint the same landscape and still find it exciting. But tourists sometimes stopped by and offered to buy the paintings from her when she was finished, and she liked to send that money back to her family for their own use in trading with the humans.
She wished that she could paint her sister, so people could see the face she kept inquiring about, but unfortunately Mai just didn't have the skills to paint from memory like that. Even a memory only a year old. Mai sighed as she made another brush stroke across the canvas, blue on blue. Maybe it was time to start searching for Kairi on other planets.
