And here we go....Failyn was going to apply for a job. This was uncomfortable for two reasons. The first: nerves. Yeah, her life wouldn't end if she didn't get this job (probably...you never really knew...She once heard a story of this girl, who if she hadn't had the job she did, might not have died), but she still wanted it. How cool would it be to work at a place where everyday you are surrounded by all the different species (Except for vampire, because vampires were mean, and killers, and murderors, and just plain evil) and getting to learn what their tastes and preferences were? Because she was applying to work at a cafe. Here. At the spaceport. And she reallyreallyreally wanted to. Not that she wouldn't get over it if she didn't get the job. She would. Fairly quickly, if history is any representative. But she did want the job a lot. The second reason she was uncomfortable? The www.polyvore.com/failyn_job_app/set?id=23221180]clothes. She was used to spending tons of time outside, and so wearing nice clothes didn't really mesh with that, because they would get ruined. So...This frilly shirt and nice slacks made her feel completely out of place compared to her normal tank top and jeans/cargo pants. On the upside, she wouldn't have to spend much time wearing the uncomfortable clothes...she had brought a spare set in her backpack to change into after the interview. She liked her backpack. It was nice. It was just the right size to rest between her wings, and although it LOOKED like leather, it wasn't. Because killing animals for their skins was wrong. How would YOU like it if she killed you so she could wear your skin around? She had become much too close to the gryffins and pegasi to put up with that kind of behavior. Anyway...job. Main point. Right. She had to get a job because her father was kicking her out. And having some currency on you tends to help your chances of survival. She planned on moving to one of the caves on one of the littler rock outcroppings...she didn't mind solitude. And it might be nice. If she got a small enough one, it might be like having a little island all to herself. A lot of people didn't like being alone, made them feel vulnerable. Failyn didn't have the worry capacity to be able to care about that sort of thing. "Wow..." Failyn thought as she walked. Because her dad didn't work in any of the species-must-get-along-except-for-the-vampires-cuz-they're-evil groups, she hadn't gotten to spend a lot of time around the other races. And this place was BUSTLING with activity. As much as somewhere in Corus could. There was obviously still a lot of space, or the winged people would go insane trying to work here. Not to mention their wings would get jostled a bunch. Failyn always found it so interesting to see all the other species. They were just so...well, different. And the humans and elves looked enough like the winged people that they seemed kind of naked without their wings. After a minute of wandering, Failyn realized she had NO IDEA how to find her way around this place. Whenever she had come before it had been with someone that knew their way about. She glanced around, looking to see if there was a map nearby.

It was another busy day at the spaceport. Saphira had been at the docks, meeting with some incoming ships to make sure they had the proper information on what was and wasn't allowed on Corus, and now she was headed towards the office to file her papers away.
She sighed, trudging down the hallway. She got slightly irritated when it got busy in doors, because she couldn't hurry to her next destination as efficiently. At least when she was traveling around the outside corridors, she could fly above the crowds, but that wasn't as easy when there were ceilings involved. Walking was so inefficient.

Of course, Failyn realized after a quick scan of the surrounding area, there WERE no maps. Winged people have an inbred natural sense of direction, and since no one really came unless that had someone to meet (who supposedly knew their way around) they had no need of clogging up space with maps. Had Failyn not spent so much time lost in her own thoughts, she'd be able to find her way around, but no. She couldn't have managed to pay attention the other times she had visited. She sighed, and instead searched for someone else who might be able to help.
Most people looked like tourists, wandering around staring at the vast expanse of water. They'd be little to no help. Chances were, they'd know how to get to where they needed to be and little else. But...There was a girl that seemed to know where she was going. She carried a bunch of papers with her like she might work at the Space Port. But she looked busy...would it be polite to go bother her?
She weighed her options. It would only take a second to ask, but she didn't want to bother someone.
Thing was, Failyn knew that if she DID offend/bother the girl, she'd feel bad a moment and then move on. And it wouldn't look good to be late for her interview. Straightening her shirt, she hurried up to the girl.
"Hello, uhm...I'm sorry to bother you, but I was wondering if you happened to know where the cafe is? I have an interview set up."

She was scanning over the documents from the last ship to come in, pondering the notes she'd made when she heard someone call out to her. She glanced over, noticing a smaller winged girl approaching her. She was dressed interestingly, more like a human than most winged girls her age, but it was nothing too out of the ordinary. Saphira certainly had her share of human-origin wardrobe at home as well. Their love of glittery clothing tended to get the best of her sometimes.
"There are a couple of cafes on the spaceport," Saphira responded, smiling at her. This was all part of her job after all, so it was important to be as friendly as possible to the patrons of the spaceport, no matter how much of a self-imposed hurry she was in. "Do you know the name of the one you're looking for? Have you tried out any of the information terminals before? They're quite easy to use once you get some practice with them." She wasn't quite sure how much experience the other girl had with computers, or even the space port in general, so it was always safe to assume they may be beginning from scratch with their exposure to human technologies.

The name of the cafe? Uhm...Failyn now wished she payed more attention, and was a little less forgettful....The name of the cafe....Uh...Oh! Right. It was called the Traveller's Rest. Personally, Failyn didn't much like the name, but on the other hand, hey, they were hiring. And an information terminal? She'd seen those, but didn't actually know how to use them. Her dad had tried to show her once, but she had been thinking about what it would be like to be a merperson and live under the sea all the time. They wouldn't get much sun down at the bottom of the sea. How did they stay warm? Failyn would freeze without the sun. Except, you know. At night. They didn't have sun then. So was being deep underwater like nighttime? But then they spent a lot of time in the night. Which would still be cold...And so that was why she had no idea how to use them. In fact, she thought her dad had cut off midway through an explanation when he realized she wasn't paying attention - now that she thought about it, she hadn't even noticed at the time.
"I think it's called the Traveller's Rest. I think...And no, I don't really know how to use an information terminal. But you don't have to show me...You looked kind of busy. If you could just give me quick directions, maybe?" She didn't want to be a bother, after all. It didn't seem to be a good way to get a job, bothering someone and keeping them from theirs. Not that whoever might hire her would necessarily find out. But it was possible.
And really, how DID mermaids stay warm? Did they just adjust to the water temperature? That would be weird. But, you know, not. Just different, not weird. Maybe they thought it was weird they flew so close to the sun or something, thinking we must be hot all the time. She should ask someone sometime. Hey! Maybe this girl knew!
"How do merpeople stay warm?"

"Ahh the Traveller's Rest," Saphira nodded. She knew that one well, having held many meetings there. Humans liked to hold meetings in cafes, for some reason. They also liked cafes for some reason. While she enjoyed the 'coffee' that they'd brought to the planet with them--it had saved her during some long nights, that was for sure--she didn't understand the desire to sit around and drink it all day while talking about the weather.
"It's down the south corridor," she pointed. "Head that way, and then take a left when you reach the first directional sign." She shifted the papers in her arm. "You really should learn those terminals though, if you get that job. You'll probably be here a lot, and they're quite helpful in finding your way around."
The girl seemed lost in her thoughts, so Saphira was a bit worried she hadn't been paying attention. She was surprised when a new question was shot off, and she couldn't help but laugh. "I don't know, actually. You'll probably have to find a merperson and ask them. I'm afraid I only know my way around Winged and Humans, since that's my job."

Yay! Directions to the Traveller's Rest! She glanced at the sun...She only had a few minutes to make it on time.
On the downside...This girl didn't know how merpeople stayed warm either. She had also come to the conclusion that asking the merpeople was the best way to know as well.
And a second problem. Failyn had to refer to the girl as, well, "the girl." Because she didn't know her name. That wasn't right. This person had been nice enough to help her, the least Failyn could do was know her name. Also, she had laughed. Failyn didn't quite know why , but did think it was quite a pretty laugh. And though it occured to her briefly that it was possible she had been laughing at Failyn, this didn't particularly bother her. Because the laugh was still pretty.
As she was liable to do, Failyn had obviously forgotten her resolution to avoid keeping the lady from whatever it was she had been doing. "Thank you for helping me. What's your name? I like your laugh." Honestly, it was probably more chance than anything that Failyn had bothered to remember the interview. Thoughts in her head were as liquid, constantly sliding around, sliding in and out, and not even she could always get a firm grasp on them. But at least she was extremely rarily a liar. Most of the time lying to someone didn't even occur to her, so her thoughts were pretty much there in the open. Thus, the rather random stringing of thoughts to other people.

"No problem at all, it's sort of what I'm here for anyway," Saphira smiled. In the grander scheme of things, she was here more for the Humans than the Winged, but often she was the bridge between them in either direction. She stuck out her hand, offering it for a hand shake. "And thank you! My name is Saphira. What's yours?"
The girl seemed a little flighty. One of those, train-of-thought types. But sometimes those were needed to liven things up. Even Saphira was guilty of not taking her filter off when it was truly needed. There were certainly times she wished she had said was what truly on her mind instead of over-thinking it. Then again, some times that same filter had kept her out of a few actually dangerous situations.

Failyn decided that she liked Saphira. She was nice. She was willing to help people she didn't know, and was all modest about it. Unless of course she was only doing it because it was her job, but she hadn't made it sound like theat...But then she wouldn't, would she? You don't get a job like that by being rude. It's just not what you do. But if she wasn't a nice person she wouldn't have asked for her name, and she had. So she was nice. And either way, Failyn had already decided to like her, so it was highly unlikely she would change her mind. Especially since she was a winged person and therefore probably didn't participate in any acts of animal cruelty.
"My name's Failyn."
She wasn't entirely sure she liked her name. It certainly wasn't that original, she had met a couple people named Failyn before. Saphira was pretty...Like a saphire, like the water, which was, of course, pretty. Failyn wondered how she got the name? Did her parents just like it, or was she named after someone?
Meep! She must stop losing her thought train! She needed to focus, and eventually actually make it to her interview, with out ending the conversation rudely or abruptly. Because she liked Saphira.

"Well, nice to meet you Failyn, that's a nice name," Saphira nodded. She was pretty sure she'd never met this particular girl before, and she clearly hadn't been to the space station before, so she must have been from a completely different village. "You're not from Amun village, are you? I'm pretty sure I know everyone who lives there."
Then she realized she was holding her up. "Oh! I'm sorry! You have an interview to get to. I shouldn't hold you up any longer. You don't want to be late to a job interview." She shifted the papers to her other arm and then held out her hand for a farewell hand shake. "Nice meeting you! Good luck on that job, hun!"

Failyn frowned. She needed to get to the interview, yes, but she also wanted to be this Saphira lady's friend. Two kind of contrasting ideas. Ooh! Failyn knew! Her face broke into a sunny smile.
Somewhere buried deep inside, some part of Failyn told her not to be such a child, that she was acting like one and no one appreciated it. It told her she was being immature. The larger, slightly more innocent part of her instantly sqashed it. She LIKED being carefree, thankyouverymuch.
"Okay! But I will run into you again later....if that's okay?" Her sunny smile changed to a more shy one as she added that second part. It was of course very possible that Saphira didn't like her. Lots of people didn't like her. That was okay. Mostly. Sometimes it made her sad. But then she remember that the pegasi and gryphins didn't like it when people had a lot of friends anyway, and felt slightly better.

"Oh definitely," Saphira nodded. "I'm here all the time, since I work here. So if you get that job, we'll probably run into each other often." But Failyn certainly wouldn't get the job if she didn't hurry. Saphira hoped the girl would realize that. Humans didn't accept carefree as easily as Winged did.
"But first you need to get that job!" she waved her off in the direction of the restaurant. "Hurry hurry!" She grinned at the girl, but decided if she didn't get moving, the girl would probably not realize her own need to get moving. "See you later!" she added for encouragement, and then headed off in the direction of her office.

Failyn frowned as Saphira disappeared through the crowd, but only slightly, and only for a moment. It was time for her interview!!
Working harder than most people would have to in order to keep her goal in mind, she started off for the cafe, carefully following Saphira's directions.
It made her happy that Saphira sounded as if she might want to see her again. Maybe they could be friends? Saphira was a bit older than her, but not by much. Of course, her father had often pointed out to her she didn't act much her age (meaning she acted y ounger). But she could be calm. Probably. She'd just have to remember to act like she did when around the animals.
Smiling, Failyn walked into the Traveller's Rest, making it just in time.
