"So far I've been lucky. I got a great deal on my vegetables, and practically got some meat for free. If I can get the same deal on clothing, then we're set," he nodded, picking the box up himself to move it closer to the stores she'd spotted as they made their way away from the stall out in the corridor.
"Do you think green is safe?" he wondered out loud. "Fauns seem to like green, right? What other colours would you suggest?"

“Green is an excellent suggestion, I think. And what you said certainly makes sense … perhaps something bright blue then? Like the colour of a clear summer sky. Lavender is a very feminine shade as well, maybe she’d like that?”
Magdalen seemed more enthused by the thought of browsing for another female. After all she’d only had a brother and therefore hadn’t been given much of an opportunity to shop with or for him. Her and her mother would have ventured from stall to stall sometimes, but not often and their sense of taste where fashion was concerned differed somewhat. Magdalen had always looked for low prices, while Melania insisted on style. It was the only glamour she managed to retain within an otherwise ordinary lifestyle.
“Were you thinking along the lines of a blouse and trousers? I’m sure they have wool dresses with longer sleeves if she prefers that kind of thing though.”

"You're the boss," he smirked. He had no idea what to buy for a girl. He was lucky if he could buy clothes for himself. "I'm glad I have you to figure out what girls like."
Sol tried to imagine a pair of trousers on Olive and really couldn't. Unless, maybe they were super huge with plenty of room. He chewed on his bottom lip in thought for a moment. "I think it'd be safer to stick to dresses. I don't know how pants would fit her. They're too specific to the human form... might be something to let her figure out if she'd be comfortable enough in."

“Mm, yes. I suppose you’re right. I’m just letting myself get carried away. I’ve never really done any shopping for myself or anyone else in general for that matter … much less a Faun.” She laughed a bit, having entered the store, and allowed her eyes to wander curiously. “So dresses and bright, cheerful colours. I think that’s what we’re going for, isn’t it?”
There were a multitude of choices in style and comfort, which Magdalen had feared. It was that same level of variety that made shopping so frustrating.
Moving towards a small shelf, the blonde picked up a shorter dress in a light turquoise. The neckline was rounded and modest, stitched by expert hands with fine silver threads.
“This is very pretty.”

"That sounds about right. Cheerful sums her up well," he agreed. Far too well, actually.
He scanned the shelves, feeling completely out of place in the store. He hadn't shopped in a real store in a long long time. At least this one had men's clothing as well. He stopped to look at a coat. It looked hearty and warm. No, he didn't need a coat though. Maybe some pants... he paused to look down at the pair he was sporting. Old and worn, a pair he'd originally traded for at the Antheian space port. Suddenly he felt even more out of place in the establishment than he'd originally felt.
He glanced over at her when she pointed out a dress. He supposed it was pretty. "Hmm. Brings out your ey--Her eyes. Olive's eyes. Olive has... blue... eyes..." He quickly averted his gaze back down to the shelf of men's pants, suddenly feeling the most awkward he could remember feeling in a long time. What was that? Good job, you fiking idiot...

While he’d begun appraising the dress, Magdalen had held it up to better display for him … just barely catching the slip-up he’d made in comparing Olive’s eyes with the colour of the garment. However she made no remark towards it and went on pretending as though Solomon had said nothing out of the ordinary. Which he hadn’t to be honest. Her own eyes were indeed blue after all, so he was merely pointing out an obvious fact. The surprising thing about it, was that he’d noticed at all.
Trying not to read too deeply into it Magdalen continued perusing the shelves, draping another blue and rose-coloured dress over her arm. They were both relatively cheap with a feminine flair and the lengths varied so that Solomon had more of a choice. While proceeding to look around, she walked behind him but stopped to see what he’d been staring at.
“Are you thinking of buying something for yourself as well?” She smiled softly, examining the pile of trousers with interest. “I think those ones there would look really good.” The blonde nodded to a dark pair that appeared to be made of thick, stylish material. Warm and aesthetically-pleasing … sometimes it was difficult to find.
“And I picked out a few more things for Olive! So you have a few options to see what would suit her best for the trip. This violet one is especially lovely."

"Yeah?" He couldn't bring himself to look her in the eye just yet. Not after that brilliant display of awkwardness. He glanced down at his own clothes again. "I suppose it's stupid of me to think about other people's suitable clothing when I've been living in these for years." He grabbed a pair of pants off the rack. May as well.
He turned to look at the clothes she'd picked out. Scanning them, he took the violet one from her, and then glancing back up at her with a bit of a smirk, he took the turquoise one as well. "That ought to do it." He headed over to the store attendant to pay, fishing out his card from a pocket inside his coat and handing it to the woman behind the counter.

He seemed uncomfortable again, but only for a moment. Had she said something wrong? Watching him carefully it wasn’t until Solomon had made his selection from the dresses she’d picked out that Magdalen felt a little bit more at ease. Cheerful, she handed the rose-coloured one to a salesgirl who was standing nearby and then moved up towards the counter.
“I had a feeling you would choose the violet and turquoise dresses. From the way you’ve described Olive, they’ll both look fantastic on her. I hope she’ll be just as pleased with them as we are.”
It was a nice feeling, to know that she’d been productive already in some way.

He took the bagged clothing from the lady at the counter and tucked his card back into his pocket. "Only the violet one is hers," he said as casually as possible, trying to hide his smirk. Well, that plan had gone smoothly. Well, minus the stupid comment he'd almost made.
Without allowing her to protest anything, he handed her the bag to carry and then headed for the crate where he'd left it by the door. He hoisted it up into his arms and then motioned towards the door. "Shall we?"

“What?” she echoed hollowly, watching him as he turned to leave the store. Standing there blinking stupidity for a moment, it wasn’t until he actually disappeared out the door that she was thanking the woman behind the counter and rushing out after him. He was lifting the crate into his arms by the time she reached him and she knew that her protests would either fall on deaf ears or eventually come to aggravate him.
Therefore it was with the shake of her head and a bemused smile that she took her side of the crate, clenching the shopping bag tightly in her other hand.
“I promised I’d help carry it.”
If her gratitude was to be expressed through her actions as opposed to words, then so be it. But she’d gladly return the favour regardless.

He chuckled a little as she hurried after him, quickly grabbing hold of a handle again. He let her, knowing she probably wouldn't let it slide just like he wouldn't let the clothing slide. "One thing you're going to learn," he commented. "I'm going to take good care of my crew, whether they want it or not."
As they made their way through the crowd again, Sol was relieved to see the end of the corridor. Almost to the docks. He couldn't wait to get back to the ship and finally see it out of this city. And Olive would be excited for her new dress. He'd only ever made her things before; silly toys whittled out of bark when she was a child, other trinkets later on... Something store bought was going to be an interesting twist.

She nodded at his remark, smiling appreciatively as they resumed their lugging of the crate through the remaining length of the corridor. It seemed Magdalen was just as anxious to get out of Terra as Solomon and so their chore seemed much easier. The awkwardness that had existed between them prior to the brief shopping trip had also seemed to dissipate which made her feel a little better.
“I have no doubts about that,” she replied with a laugh.
With their destination drawing nearer, Magdalen became lighter of step and sighed with relief.
“I’m so excited to meet the rest of the crew. I just hope they’ll feel the same way! Only one way to find out.”

There had been a few different postings for open cabins, but most of them had been dismissed for various reasons. Some ships were too big, and the chance she would be noticed was higher. Too scuzzy and she might as well just turn herself into the police.
But this one showed some promise. It was near the saucer ship that she'd met the one boy by. It was gone now, already taken off sometime in the night. She really wished he'd taken her, but she had to try. She had to get off Terra and find someone who wouldn't ask too many questions.
She pulled her hood tighter and held onto her bag, waiting for someone to come along.

As they finally made their way out into the open air and headed towards the docks, Sol was relieved to finally be out of the crowds of people. After living by himself so long, Terra was far too busy and crowded for him, even on the slowest of days. He stretched a little, happy to have some room to move. The docks were still busy, but nowhere near the levels of the market.
As he led them towards the ship, he noticed a figure lingering outside of it. "Hmm. I wonder who that is..."

Magdalen’s excitement intensified as they finally managed to wrestle their way out of the hectic marketplace, hands no longer feeling quite as sore now that she knew they’d nearly reached their destination. She was anxious to see the ship and introduce herself to the rest of the crew, but as the young blonde went to say as much to Sol she noticed that his attention was already preoccupied. Lifting her chin to see what he was staring at, she glimpsed a lone figure hovering almost uncertainly a short distance away.
“I’m assuming she’s not a member of the crew, then.”
Because the stranger was wearing a hood, it made discerning their facial features quite difficult. However the shape of her body was enough to assume it was at least female.
