THREAD WAS ACCIDENTALLY DELETED - BRIEF SUMMARY OF CONTENTS
Grace arrived at Enan's office. With no patients left to treat, he invited Grace back to his office. She gave him the list of supplies she needed and invited him out to dinner after work. As he gathered the supplies, they discussed his job and how he felt about it. Grace managed to convince Enan that if he wanted to travel and try something new, the time to leave was now, since there would never be a better time. Inspired by this, he quit his job, stating that he'd just found out about a child he'd fathered and wished to be in the child's life. Grace was not outright stated to be the mother, but it would be an easy conclusion for any staff to jump to. He tendered his resignation and the two left together.
They went to dinner at Bernards, a popular place near the docks that bought fresh meat from ships with too product, both legal and illegal meats. They discussed their families, how Enan's father's death had lead him into medicine, and how the seven children in Grace's family had been partly responsible for sending her into space at a young age.
After dinner, they went to see Grace's ship. She gave him a tour of the saucer and invited him up to her room. Enan wasn't certain he would enjoy the communal style of living the Queen of Spades promoted, and felt a bit anxious about the whole thing. Grace kept him busy so he couldn't think too much about anything, planning on leaving with Enan in the early morning. And by busy I mean they totally did it.

Grace:
She laughed as well, "Yeah. Most people need a bit to get used to living like this. I had the opposite problem. I slept horribly for weeks after I got my own room. It was too quiet. I couldn't hear other people. And there was too much room." That had been before Klove. Grace had toughed it out, gotten used to the quiet, found a way to sleep in a big bed instead of having her back pressed against metal all the time. Sometimes though, when it got bad, and there was only her and Klove, she went down and bunked across from him. It didn't happen often, but it was nice to know the option was there, if things really got to her.
Grace headed out, and back toward the stairs, "Come on, I'll show you the top. Cockpit's up there, and so's the captain's quarters."
Enan:
He was interested in the ship itself but not so much living on it. He was pretty sure he'd have the opposite problem as her. He followed Grace as she lead the way, still looking around and taking in extra bits of info.
"So far, is Klove the only permanent member of your crew? I mean besides all the mercenaries." He asked curiously. He also noticed no sign of any medical areas. Most ships had at least a small one. Especially when dealing with Mercs it was important to have.
Grace:
"Yeah, Klove's the only permanent one. But this isn't a long-term ship. Most men sign on, make their money, and move on." She headed up the stairs, "I've got some repeat mercs. A few guys I work with again and again. But they're even more mobile than I am. They hate staying on the same ship longer than two months."
Grace slid open the door to the cockpit and stepped inside, sitting in the pilot's chair. Of all the places to sit, this was the most comfortable. It had to be. If you were spending six or seven hours in it, you wanted to be comfy. The window was on the transparent setting, and with the overlays turned off. She swivelled her chair around to face Enan, "Here's where I spent most of my time."
Enan:
he cockpit was quite nice. The control panels seemed simple enough but still a bit more than he could learn in a short amount of time. This, along with engine rooms would be Caden's favorite, that's for sure. "It's nice," He examined a bunch of the controls and tried to figure out what some of the not so obvious ones were for.
It was interesting for him to see the environment she lived in on a regular basis. A bit strange for a typical girl, but Grace was the farthest from a 'typical' girl as you would be able to find.
Grace:
"When I got the new engines installed, we had to rip this apart and rewire it. It was a nightmare. These weren't built to be retrofitted. But I didn't want to give her up, not when I knew what she could be." Grace turned the chair around, running her fingers across the console and smiling to herself, "She's faster than most. Faster than anything the military's got."
She pointed to the various consoles, "That's all the ship's life-support functions and the extras like plumbing and fuel lines. Front console's got what you need to fly." She patted the steering wheel, "And your weapons, just on the side there. I can put overlays across the screen with it, or monitor whoever else is passing through my space. And this piece of crap-" She tapped the other console with her foot, "-controls the engine. I've been trying to condense it down since half the buttons are useless with the new engines, but it's been giving me pain so I'm just leaving it in."
She stood up again, leaving her jacket on the pilot's seat. Grace slid past Enan, opening the door to her room and gesturing for him to follow her inside.
Captain's room was a geometrical mess. The bathroom was tucked in the left corner, airlock in the right. Her bed was tucked sideways against the wall, and if you lay on your side and looked right, you could watch the viewscreen. A workbench was underneath it, chair bolted to the floor. Around the room were various storage lockers, bolted to the walls as well. Her weapons locker was beside the airlock, disguised to look just like all the others. "And here's my room.
Enan:
He had a strange moment like a little kid again when he just wanted to push a button for fun. But obviously restrained himself. He kind of guessed that a new engine would hurt some of the original wiring but wasn't completely sure if his thoughts were right. Again it was something he'd usually ask his brother about instead of trying to do himself. He knew a few basics, but when it came down to the tricky little things, Caden was way more qualified than he was.
He raised an eyebrow slightly and followed her into her room. He stepped inside and looked around. It had fair amount of space to it and a simple layout. You didn't really need much more than that when traveling. And he would take this room over a single bunk any day.
Grace:
"And that's the grand tour of the Queen of Spades. The only thing you missed was the mess hall, but I can show you that tomorrow at breakfast." She tried to say it as casually as she could, but the damned smirk worked it's way out of her. Hell, he had to know why she'd brought him back here by now. Man couldn't be that thick.
Downstairs, she could hear someone moving around. Klove then. Where had he been? She'd interrogate him tomorrow and find out if she'd missed out on anything, or if he was playing shy for no reason.
Enan:
Tomorrow...? He hadn't really planned on staying but had a feeling she had been leaning towards it. If she wanted him to stay he could stay for the night and just hop off before they took off. He wasn't one for longtime traveling, it didn't sit too well with his stomach. That wasn't something he was about to share with a captain. I get the feeling I'm gonna be here for a while... he said to himself.
Was someone else in the ship? They both must have heard the same noise, but Grace didn't seem to worried. It was most likely Klove or a merc from what he could guess.
Grace:
The look on his face made her laugh. She couldn't help it. Enan looked so concerned. Maybe some of those self-preservation skills were kicking in, but it was a little too late for those. He was already in the ship.
"I'm not going to bite." She assured him, stepping into his space and grinning up at him, "Not unless you want me to."
Enan:
Sometimes the invasion of space irritated him, but in this case he'd take it. A small smirk appeared on his face and his eyes watched her carefully. For the adventurous Captain she seemed to be, one would expect someone a little rough around the edges. Not Grace, in his eyes she was near to perfect.
"And what if I said, I wanted you to?" His small smirk turned into a bit of a mischievous grin.
Grace:
"Then I'd be happy to oblige." Grace leaned up and kissed him on the lips. Mmm, stubbly. She did enjoy a man who got a 5'o'clock shadow on his face by the end of the day.
Graced pulled back after a moment to shut the door and lock it. Then she went back to Enan, grinning like a cat with a bowl of cream. Today had worked out exactly how she'd wanted it to. You couldn't ask for more than that. Well. Maybe you could. But you'd be damned stupid to push your luck when it had gotten you something this tall, dark and handsome.
