She is a naturally curious person however, who is willing and quick to learn. As a result of her circumstances, Skye was forced to grow up to fast, and never really got to be a child. Because of that, she is very childlike in some ways. [/size][/ul]
so the story begins...
Chapter 1: Early Childhood
Skye's parents once owned a bar deep in the Below, a shady organization, but one that kept them and their two children from starving. Skye's mother Melissa, however, had been born into a middle class family and was not happy with the way life was going. She had been promised that great things were to come for her and her husband one he established himself in the world. As the years passed and that did not happen, Melissa became impatient and angry. When Skye was only two years old, she abandoned the family. Skye could barely remember her mother, and her father was too upset to talk about it.
Chapter 2: Adrian
Skye's brother Adrian was nine years older than her, and was the only one who would talk to her about their mother. He would tell her stories about their parents when they were younger, to keep her happy when times grew hard. Their father grew distant, spending most of his time drunk or on exotic drugs, rousing himself only to serve customers and keep the business going. Adrian served as Skye's father-figure, because her biological father just wasn't acting the part. Soon Adrian too became angry at his father's irresponsible actions, and as soon as he turned 18 he left home to become a space pilot, hoping to make enough money that he could take his sister away from her terrible surroundings.
Adrian returned every few months, and would tell his sister stories of the places he'd been, the things he'd seen. He promised that when he got enough money together he would take her to those places. When Skye turned 11 she began to work as a waitress in the family bar. Adrian came home soon after that to say that he was going for the first time to the planet Nox, and promised to tell her of it's wonders when he returned. The only problem was, he didn't return.
Chapter 3: The Cage
As Skye grew up and her body began to mature, she was harassed increasingly by her father's customers. Her father made no move to stop this and even encouraged the men. For the most part, Skye was able to fend for herself in this respect, and from this she learned to hide how frightened or bothered by something she was and put on a brave face.
Skye looked a lot like her mother, and it was shortly after she turned 15 that her father began to call her Melissa. He abused her and shouted at her for leaving him. He wouldn't believe she was not her mother, and did not even remember having a daughter named Skye or a son named Adrian. When Skye tried to rouse his memory with stories, he would call her a liar and throw things at her. The situation continued to worsen, until Skye finally decided she'd had enough.
Chapter 4: Escape
On her sixteenth birthday, Skye packed her few possessions, cut her hair, and slipped out of her bedroom window in the dead of night, leaving not a trace of herself behind but a few locks of blonde hair on her bed pillow. She became a pickpocket in the Below and using the money she stole, she was able to but herself food. For the next few weeks this was Skye's life, until she met Titus, an assassin from the Top. Titus caught Skye in the act of stealing his wallet, but she convinced him to take her back to the Top with him.
Chapter 5: Dreaming
Under Titus' protection, Skye began to experience the kind of life she'd scarcely known existed. At last, her dream of seeing the sky was full-filled, and the Top was every bit as wonderful as Adrian had always told her. She grew close with Titus' friend Persephone, who understood a lot of what Skye had experienced, and was able to give her the kind of open sympathy that was harder for Titus to express.
However, some of what Skye experienced at the hands of her father has started coming back to haunt her. She sees his face in dreams and spends all her time fearing him, often simply collapsing into sobs as she is overwhelmed by memories. She is afraid of being assumed crazy and sent back to the Below, but she still has hope that she can overcome her PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and learn enough to go to Nox in hopes of finding Adrian.
role play example =
It was raining. One would expect that because the Below was covered from above by so many miles of other buildings, the rain, like the sunlight, would barely reach it but this was hardly to case. Water ran down one roof and then another and another, going on and on until it finally thundered down, like so many waterfalls, onto the streets of Terra. Anyone who was stupid or unfortunate enough to be outside was instantly soaked.
Skye Thompson was both stupid and unfortunate. She ran down the road, slipping and sliding, half blinded by the torrents of rain pouring down on her. Her jeans were heavy against her legs, her thin t-shirt and dirty blonde hair plastered to her skin. She clutched a small backpack to her chest, in a hopeless attempt to keep it from getting wet. But she had to try, all her worldly possessions were in there.
She dashed under the slope of a tin roof and leaned against the wall, her chest rising and falling rapidly. Her eyes scanned the dirty, rain-soaked streets frantically, her face full of terror. She shivered, her heart sinking, her spirits as heavy as her rain soaked clothes. What am I doing here? She thought desperately. I'm lost, I'm hungry, I'm alone, I'm cold and wet, and I'm afraid. She reached under her shirt and clutched at a small, crystal heart on a chain. Adrian had given it to her the last time he'd ever come home. Tears stung at her eyes. Skyler Marie Thompson don't you dare cry! But she couldn't help it. Tears streamed down her cheeks, mixing with the rain that was dripping from her hair. She was alone. So alone.
A noise from inside the house she was leaning against startled her suddenly. Her heart skipped a beat, and then returned, thumping in a frantic, pounding rhythm. Run. It seemed to say. Run Skye, Run. And so she did. She did not know where she was going, or when she would get there, but the chips were down. There was nothing to do but keep running.
