He had been under the impression that the criminal who had been stealing from him had been caught. But when Gerard noticed that the bounty on the man's head had gone up it only meant one thing. They no longer had him. Gerard wanted to know why. Every moment this guy was loose was a threat to his company. He made a trip to the Terran Government Headquarters for answers.
He stood waiting for someone who was responsible in part of holding this Visvajit character. Gerard stood staring out a window while he waited. He was furious, and it didn't help that his only son was out there somewhere possibly crossing paths with the criminal.

Paul Enker steeled himself outside the door of the visitor's lounge. He didn't particularly want to talk to Gerard Emerson today. What he wanted to do was wait to hear back from the ship searching the location of Unwin's laboratory on Antheia. Preliminary findings looked good. There did appear to be some sort of facility in the forest. And while there would likely be very little to find there, it would be something to keep his superiors from breathing down his neck, and hopefully get Cain off-planet again.
At the moment, Cain was driving Enker insane. The man was sure that Paul was somehow connected to the power failure, even though he had proof that he was on his proper floor immediately after the power went off. The superiors weren't taking Cain seriously, but they would if Enker didn't find something to keep them too busy to listen to Cain and be swayed by him.
Cain had been unavailable to meet with Emerson. That was a shame. Emerson and Cain knew one another and were... familiar, though not exactly friends. Emerson didn't like Enker and while Enker hid his own dislike well, it was a reciprocated dislike. He was used to getting his own way, and Enker wasn't fond of men who were always used to getting their way.
No more stalling. He had to do this. Enker opened the door and stepped inside. "Hello Mr. Emerson. How are you today?"

He raised an eyebrow at the voice that entered. He turned around with his hands still behind his back. "Not, impressed," He answered with a hint of irritation mixed into his professional appearance. Enker? That was who was available? Great. There had to have been someone else around... No matter, if he had information he had better share.
Gerard reached into his pocket for his eInker and pulled up the bounty on Unwin. Clearing his throat quickly, he asked, "Would you care to explain to me why this went up when you supposedly had him in your hands?" There was no logical explanation as to how someone could just escape a facility like this.

This was not going to go well. Enker prepared himself for the inevitable shouting and threats to have him fired. He stood near Emerson, but not too close beside him, just in case the man got activated enough to get physical.
"I wasn't aware that the government had acknowledged that Unwin Visvajit was captured at all." Enker pointed out. Emerson was an important man with important friends. Undoubtedly someone had told him. All the same, it was a quiet jab at Emerson to remind him that he knew more than he had any right to. "But, you're right. We did have him. Unfortunately, Mr Visvajit escaped during a power failure."

"If it's information getting out into the public that you seem concerned about, there is no need. I gain and keep specific information to myself." Often when he got any sort of inside information, which wasn't frequent, he kept every bit of it to himself. Unless a situation such as this should surface. "Yes I knew he was here. But you're telling me a simple power outage was enough to let a high security risk criminal slip through your fingers?" It wasn't very believable to him at all. He knew there would have been some sort of security posted that should have seen something.
"If that's the case I'd suggest investing in a better generator. As it seems everything is run off of one?" He had an almost threatening tone now. Had anyone in this building ever heard of using something not tech based? Like chains for instance. Everyone knows machines can fail, thus having a mixture better improves the security if something should go wrong.

"From what our investigators have determined, Unwin ripped off his restrained, crawled through a tiny ventilation duct with a broken arm, and scaled down at least a dozen floors on the outside of our building with only one working arm. I assure you Mr. Emerson, no one thought this was possible. In fact, many of our men believe he may have fallen to his death." Of course, Enker knew the truth. The padd in his office had two strong signals on it, proof that Unwin was alive and well, and currently past Corus. "I was the one who suggested we raise his bounty as a precaution. I don't believe any man who had the will to crawl that many meters on a broken arm would perish so easily."
"The generator powers the lower half of the building and unfortunately, that's where Unwin was being kept. If you review our annual budget, you'll discover that I have been recommending we get a new generator for the past five years running." And that much was true. Of course, there would never be a new generator, not until the old one died completely. That was the way the government worked. You didn't bother upgrading unless it was absolutely necessary. And so Enker could make all sorts of timely and excellent suggestions he knew would be ignored, and he knew would keep him looking innocent when this clearly flawed technology failed.
"However, this hasn't be a total loss. Before he escaped, Unwin produced the location of a laboratory on Antheia. A military ship has arrived on sight and is currently checking to see if this is a confirmed location and if anything useful can be found."

"My point is, that he should not have been alone. A man in a difficult situation such as his is less likely to try an escape plan if eye's are constantly on him." It was true, most wait for that moment when no one is looking. That's when they move. So having constant eye's on a target makes them more cautious and less likely to do anything stupid.
He turned again to look out the window. "Do you understand how much this man has cost me? When he stole that research he nearly wiped our systems completely clean. We were on the verge of something that could bring back all of those supposedly extinct animals by the use of a simple DNA sample. But after the break in, our research had to be practically restarted from scratch." He was doing his best to keep his cool despite wanting to physically wring Enker's neck.

"Sir, with all due respect, I disagree. His escape happened during a blackout. If the guards did notice him escaping, a rather unlikely event considering the room he was kept in was without exterior windows and our guards do not usually carry flashlights, then he would have murdered them." Enker was right. He knew Unwin. The man was not squeamish, and he was certainly not afraid to murder if it was necessary to escape.
There was going to be no reasoning with Emerson. But Enker had to do his job, so he kept talking as calmly as possible. "I understand your frustration, but we're doing all that we can. Hopefully the evidence we find on Antheia will help us determined where he's keeping the bulk of the the stolen property and we can recover your assets. I apologize for this set-back, but we're doing the best that we can."
