describe full personality = Daniel is a typical example of his canine subspecies, largely staying to himself but very devoted to his family and a few close friends. It is easy to simply write-off this peculiar young man as being indifferent or aloof at first meeting him, as he tends to adopt a wary, shy and reserved nature, his words seemingly chosen very carefully. His trust is hard to gain, and he’ll seem awkward until he feels he can let his guard down. Strangely for a Were he is sensitive to others and genuinely cares to the point that he may inadvertently let himself be taken advantage of for his kindness.
Possessing an ambitious and inquisitive mind, Daniel is a creature driven by his hunger for knowledge and learning. An incredible hard-worker who believes in himself, he has been known to miss meals, sleep and even days so that he may finish a project. Perhaps one explanation for this self-destructive behaviour is the early realisation that his memory is unreliable, which resulted in him forcing himself to write notes and become more observant.
Despite his usually amiable and relaxed self, Daniel has an obsessive personality that is only further intensified by his impulsive nature. He fixates on something, without looking past the reason for this attachment and seems content to let his latest passion take over until something else comes along. He can be evasive and reluctant to open up about certain subjects, and seems keen to keep people at a manageable distance, if he feels threatened. [/size][/ul]
so the story begins...
Born the first child of a young couple who were overjoyed at his arrival, Daniel couldn't possibly have had a better start in life. His birth was tinged with mixed emotions however, as the boy's grandfather had passed away the evening before, leaving his heartbroken widow, Margaret on her own. Daniel's parents insisted that she stay with them in the cottage they would raise their family in whilst out hunting in wolf form. Fortunately, Daniel adored the woman and she doted on him in turn, offering to share out child-minding duties with his parents in accordance with the chaotic phases of the Nox moon cycles. His parents soon picked up that he enjoyed hearing stories and words, attempting to say them and learn something, even at that young age. His earliest memory is of seeing a picture of a penguin in a book, and memorising the descriptions of how it lived. Thus starting his obsession with the flightless birds.
As his family had to change into their canine forms and search for food, Daniel grew used to being shared between his parents and Margaret, who also took it in turns to cook and hunt. His independent nature drove him to find ways of amusing himself so that he wouldn't be a bother to his family, and with his family living so far away from other beings it further developed this trait. From his father, a craftsman, he learned how to carve animals out of wood, and also how to seek the rodents they consumed and from his mother he learned how to cook and prepare food, and which plants were safe to eat. His grandmother knew many stories, and hardly ever told the same one twice although she didn't seem to mind when he asked for one of his favourites.
In his sixth year, his mother gave birth to her second child, a boy they named Lewis. Daniel was eager to learn how to care for his baby brother, and couldn't wait to teach him about the planet and being a Were. For some reason, Lewis's immune system was weaker than it should have been and he was constantly ill, most of his early life spent wrapped up in a cot. Their mother sought the advice of another Were who was skilled with medicine, and she became a figure of interest for Daniel. She was the first stranger he had seen in his life, and he was fascinated by her; he constantly asked questions about the outside world, and although she obliged he didn't realise at the time that she was protecting his innocence by keeping vague. Whenever she came to visit he would trail behind her asking questions, and watching her work. He was keen to learn from her, wanting his brother to recover and seeing it as a valuable skill anyways. She agreed to teach him, knowing that little would change his mind and before long he was helping alongside her.
Gradually, through much care and attention of the healer and his anxious family little Lewis grew stronger and years after turned out to be quite the handful. Daniel made a fantastic big brother, protecting, playing and teaching his sibling and the two seemed to get on well, but could never be called close. An early memory that still holds a a place in Daniel's mind is of the first time he met his extended family to witness the arrival of human explorers. They joined the others in anticipation, and although seeing the humans was the main event, the Maas boys were enthralled by the scene regardless. His senses were seized by the sight of other Weres, and of the reserved creatures who gathered at the far edge. That was the first time he had seen Vampires, he can recall his parents warning him of their dangerous nature.
As the brothers matured, a distance fell upon them. When Lewis was thirteen years of age, and Daniel showed signs of being able to shift into his animal form he began noticing strange developments in Lewis' personality. Firstly, he seemed to loathe his own grandmother, running her down whenever she tried to look after him, and whilst Daniel helped he seemed less inclined to listen as he once had. The only people he showed any respect to were his parents, and as Dan quickly noticed, he would seek their mother's attention the most, seeming to enjoy playing games and pitting his family against one another.
At the age of eighteen Daniel took his first hunting trip with his father, and learned many survival skills that would serve him well later on. He took in this new world eagerly, with a hunger to discover and learn for himself what else his homeland held. He made plans to travel and stay with other members of his mother's sprawling family, although he was reticent to leave his beloved and now ailing grandmother with Lewis. He trained himself to stay further and further away from his family's cottage after hunting until he was on his own, and took off to the south. After months of traveling, his body became familiar with the transitions between forms although he sometimes shifted when he forgot to observe the lunar cycles, so wrapped up was he in his adventures. He lost himself from time to time, and on one such occasion he inadvertently discovered something new and very dangerous; the borders between Were and Vampire territories. Daniel was drawn in by the magnificent dwellings he had only seen illustrations of in books. Settling on the idea of exploring the gloomy abodes he advanced, and a sudden thought gripped him; he yearned to unearth the kind of books and knowledge that could be held within their ancient walls.
Daniel's curiosity had overridden his senses, as shadows had been watching him from their hiding places and now saw a trespasser to their lands. They attacked him, and he was easily knocked to the ground by the group, who had no need for Were blood when they smelt it. They left him once they'd had their fun, making sure to drag him off their territory for good measure. Daniel managed to crawl in his beaten state, trying to find a safe place to curl up and fall into sleep. His mind surrendered to darkness before he knew where he was. Later that evening he was discovered by a female Were out on patrol, and taken back to her small pack of three older brothers where she attempted to nurse him back to health. She succeeded, and roughly a week later Daniel seemed to be more aware of his surroundings and of how fortunate he was; the attack had been a warning, the girl, Selina, explained.
Selina cared for her 'stray' (as she affectionately called him) until he was well enough to function without her. Over the three months since the attack and his rescue, the young man had become close to Selina, although he'd never have the courage to tell her. The girl however, had grown distant and aloof as her patient gained more strength and then one day she and her brothers disappeared from his life. Distraught but having no other choices, Daniel picked himself up and continued his travels staying with aunts and uncles and cousins until he returned to his family when he was twenty-two. By that time he was shocked and angry to discover that Lewis was gone too, his parents thinking that he might have joined a ship, leaving them all assuming he could be anywhere in the universe. He allowed routine to keep his madness at bay for the next three years, rapidly becoming obsessed with the idea of finding the only two important people missing from his life; his brother Lewis and Selina.

The thick forest muted Daniel’s footsteps as he marched through it, head bent so that his vision mostly followed his own feet. He was headed for a bar in the Spaceport, he could count the amount of times he had visited both on one hand. He wasn’t exactly a social type, and he knew it, but a social call was necessary. After many months of searching and tracking, Daniel had news of his brother’s whereabouts.
The young man shivered involuntarily despite the dry, rattling winds he pulled the collars of his overcoat further about him. Why had the little idiot turned out the way he had? Daniel fumed internally, raking over his childhood memories and trying to find the root of his sibling’s change, once again. It was his most constant companion, this inner quest to locate the change, lingering amongst the other aches and what-ifs his life had presented him with. “Pull yourself together, man.” He growled to himself, before slowly looking up as the landscape widened to accommodate the large Spaceport.
Seeing this definite human landmark reminded him the informant he was meeting for the afternoon could be related to any one of the architects, builders, artists and the like who constructed it. As he drew in a breath and strode towards it he wondered idly if he should question her about it. The fact that his companion was human would split his extended family and some other older Weres down the middle; from what Daniel had gathered from being solo from his folks was that had the Maases stayed longer to greet the humans they might have witnessed the bloodshed and loss on both sides. All of fifteen years ago. Some forgave and forget, others never would.
Either way, the Were-Wolf was curious of these otherworldly travellers, desperate to uncover the depths of their knowledge and gain a greater understanding of the world. He frowned as he kept his thoughts from spiralling. Surely you can’t have forgetten the last time you let it get the better of you? Daniel unconsciously rubbed the scars on his neck, before pausing by the modern glass doors of the bar vacantly. He pushed them open and stepped inside, his eyes swiftly adjusting to the low lighting as he launched himself into the nearest booth. The place was noisy and crowded, as described, and all the better to discuss private matters as the chance for being overheard was slim at best. He simply ordered water when a waitress passed him, and gripped the cool glass with his long fingers.
Ignoring the perplexed glances in his direction, he only looked up as he caught the distinct smell of a human, and waved shyly to the woman. He allowed her to order herself a drink and engage him in some small talk before he spoke. “So you’ve , ah, seen my brother, ah, Lewis, in a place, was it called ‘The Underworld’?” He sipped at his water, embarrassed at his lack of finesse in the conversation department.
