describe full personality = Era is a calm and peaceful man, choosing to blend into the crowd whenever possible. He tries to see the best in all people, and does not judge. To some people, he appears to be aloof and cold, but Era is a warm-hearted person at the core of his being, and always willing to talk or listen. Not a natural born leader, Era has had to struggle to take command and it shows. When he comes to a decision, you know that he has taken his time to consider all possibilities and has chosen what he feels is the best choice, or the lesser of all evils. [/size][/ul]
so the story begins...
Erawan Montri was born into Old Money, a fortune earned by his great-great-great-grandfather. He was always a quiet boy, happy to stay two steps behind rather than take the lead. Era excelled at school, but deliberately chose to fail certain assignments, in order to be the forth best rather than the first, second or third. This trend continued when Era graduated and went to medical school. He did well, but never too well.
He received an internship at TG-NE (Terra General - Northeast), the largest government-run hospital on the northeastern half of Terra. It was a stressful position, but Erawan made it through, and even began to thrive in the high-pressure environment. He fell in love with another doctor, the beautiful and sweet Inoue Yue, and after a few years of dancing around the subject, they were quietly married. With coaxing from Yue, Era began to come out of his shell. His surgical skills improved and he soon found himself well-known, respected, and even a little famous. Awards were still awkward for Era, but with Yue's help, he managed to accept them.
After five years of marriage, Yue began to get horrible headaches. She resisted getting them checked out at first, but after passing out at dinner, she gave in. Yue had a brain tumour. After reviewing their options, they decided to operate. Yue wanted Era to do the operation, but Era refused, saying that he would be too emotional and didn't want to risk her life. His wife tried to persuade him, but Era refused to budge on this. They would find the best doctor on Terra if they had to, but it wouldn't be him. Another doctor, the one who had graduated top of Erawan's class, offered to do the operation and Yue reluctantly accepted.
The operation took four hours. Era waited outside, unwilling to watch his wife's head cut open and operated on. But when the doctors emerged, it wasn't with good news. There had been complications. Yue had died on the table. Era was devastated. The loss of his wife was hard enough, but the guilt he felt for not doing the operation was a million times worse. Maybe he could have saved her. Maybe he would have seen a better way. The guilt ate away at him, and the stress that had once caused him to thrive was now debilitating. Halfway through a surgery, he noticed his hand starting to tremble and was forced to leave.
Era left TG-NE, and sold the home he and Yue had shared. For a few years, he drifted from place to place in Terra, using his fortune to keep moving. Finally, at 35, the surgeon who operated on Yue found Era. He couldn't give Yue back, but he could give Era a purpose. He introduced Era to Project: System, an organization devoted to bring medical care to every section of the System and to every race, irregardless of whatever conflicts were happening or what side of the law the patients were on. After some coaxing, Era agreed to join the organization. He started as a doctor, but was quickly shuffled up the ranks to Captain when they found his calm demeanour allowed Era access to sites humans were usually banned from and gained trust from men who normally wouldn't set aside their weapons for anyone.
While he isn't completely comfortable as Captain of the Galen, Era is beginning to accept his role as a reluctant leader, and the challenges that Project: System constantly brings.
role play example =
The Galen orbited around Heimdall, white sleek curves reflecting the sun. From this high up, it became clear how much of Heimdall was desert and how much was scrubland. You couldn't see the people moving, but they were there, spreading out over the surface of the dusty globe.
Era watched from the bridge, seeing the world laid out below him and splayed across the viewscreen that wrapped around the bridge, only ending when it hit the airlocks. The station was mostly empty today, the bulk of the crew having gone planetside to relax. Era had opted to stay on board.
Everything was so peaceful up here. Even the sun, hot and boiling as it may be, looked calm from space. He liked things here. Quiet. Peaceful. Era could have spent all day watching the globe slowly slide across the screen, pulling the Galen along in it's orbit.
There was a quiet beeping sound. Someone wanted to talk to Era. Maybe they'd already run into a problem while trying to make contact with the goblin camps. They didn't quite trust humans, but that was understandable. Their beliefs were different, their values weren't human values, and trouble rose out of that.
The beep came again. Era reluctantly set aside his desire for quiet. "Answer the call, display on main screen" He faced the viewscreen, waiting to see what the problem was.
